About the formations... ↕

EDMI and the college of doctoral schools offer training throughout the year. These trainings are visible on ADUM and you can register for the trainings of your choice. However, before the end of your thesis contract, you must check certain points:

• You have completed at least 100 hours of training, including:

  • At least 25 hours are training offered by the doctoral school of mathematics and computer science (EDMI)
  • At least 25 hours are training offered by the college of doctoral schools (CED). Among these, 2 courses are compulsory and must be done during the first year of your PhD:
    • The “Research Ethics” training
    • Training “Scientific integrity in research professions”

• You have the option of taking a master’s course. You can then declare it as off-catalog training which will count for a maximum of 12 hours in the hours of training followed.

• Competent workshops also for 12 hours of training, they must be declared off-catalog

For a course to be validated by the doctoral school, you must have completed at least 75% of the course. Otherwise, no training hours will be allocated to you.

Teaching and expertise missions ↕

2 types of complementary missions are possible during your doctorate:

• Expert missions
• Teaching assignments

Teaching Assignments: #

What is this ? #

A teaching mission is a contract of 32 or 64 hours allowing you to teach in a teaching team of the university.

How to register? #

As of May, you will receive an email from the doctoral school asking you to complete a form and send your application file after approval from your thesis director. The answers are generally given at the beginning of the school year and you will know if you have obtained an additional teaching assignment at that time.

What if I don’t have a teaching assignment? #

You can apply again next year. It is also possible to teach as an entrepreneur. Ask your management or your favorite teachers, they may have a mission for you.

Expert Missions: #

What is this ? #

You leave for a maximum of 32 days per year in a company to meet a need. You will use your skills and knowledge to help the company in the tasks it assigns to you. For example, you can carry out experiments, advice, legal analyses, market or feasibility studies, project support, report writing, product and software development, documentation writing, competitions, provide training, create websites…

How to register? #

Once the company and the need have been identified, you can contact Blanche MACLEF to set up all the necessary steps. It also sometimes sends offers that you can apply for.

And the salary? #

Yes, you are paid as a temporary worker or with an additional mission. Everything will be written on your endorsement.

The other missions #

• the missions of valorization of the results of the research,
• the missions of dissemination of scientific and technical information

Where can we eat for Lunch ? ↕

By doing your thesis at the IMB, it is possible to eat:

• In the IMB “break room”, if you have prepared your meal. Fridges and microwaves are available.

At the CNRS restaurant: #

• 3 All. de la Boétie, 33600 Pessac.
• The rates applied depend on the institute paying you. (3euros for CNRS and 6 euros for UB, 12 euros for others)

At the Haut-Carré. #

• 43 rue Pierre Noailles 33400 TALENCE.
• If you are paid by Inria the price is around 3euros, if you are paid by UB it is 3euros67 and those paid by CNRS will pay greater than 7euros.

For those who are paid by Inria, it is possible to eat at Inria directly.
